zims foundation flight fest website

Multiple Sclerosis is a disease close to Ryan Zimmerman’s heart. Ryan is a professional baseball player with the Washington Nationals and is also a Virginia Beach native and graduate of Kellam High School. Ryan founded ziMS since his mother Cheryl was diagnosed with MS, a chronic and unpredictable disease that affects the central nervous system. The ziMS Foundation is 100% volunteer based and raises money to “bring home a cure for MS”.

Point Chesapeake on the Bay is proud to be a sponsor of the ziMS Flight Fest Fundraiser on Saturday, November 4th, 2017. This is a fun event for the entire family and will raise money for a great cause! Enjoy all-you-can-eat pig roast, oysters, sides, beer, wine desserts and more. There will be live music and a DJ, plus face painting, Bubble Soccer, Archery Tag and fireworks. Bid on over 100 items at the Silent Auction and check out the museum’s collection of planes.

Mermaid Winery Opening on Shore Drive

mermaid winery

Mermaid Winery is opening on Shore Drive in Virginia Beach, just down the road from Point Chesapeake.  A first of it’s kind in the city, this winery is not located on farmland. Owner Jennifer Eichert opened her first location in Norfolk’s Ghent area five years ago. After harvesting grapes from Virginia and California, she then presses and blends them on site. The Virginia Beach location will include a restaurant, a wine bar and a tasting room for private parties. Read the Full Article Here

While construction continues on Point Chesapeake, these luxury waterfront homes are beginning to take shape. During a recent hard hat tour, we could see what makes these homes so special. Upon entering each model through the foyer, you are greeted with full-on, expansive window views from all major living areas of water, sky and the long stretch of sand with untouched dunes in the foreground. Every home is specifically designed to include a bay view and there are only 8 luxury homes per building, giving residents more privacy. Another plus is that while most condos in this corridor of Shore Drive offer only 2 full baths, the homes at Point Chesapeake have 2.5 baths with that extra powder room for guests.

Stylish appointments include:

  • Private, 2-Car, Side-by-Side Garages
  • 2.5 Baths
  • Spacious Balconies (large enough for patio furniture)
  • Interior, Secured Hallways with Elevators
  • Club House with Exercise Studio and Large Outdoor Deck overlooking the Bay & Inlet
  • Private Access to the Beach and Gazebo

With only 48 homes available, buyers will want to stake their claim soon on the last undeveloped bay front property where the Chesapeake Bay meets the Lynnhaven River.  View Floor Plans

Homes are selling now. Call 757-517-0922 for more information or to schedule your tour!

Old Lesner Bridge Makes Way For New

The Lesner Bridge Facing East toward Point Chesapeake

View of The Lesner Bridge from Point Chesapeake

One of Virginia Beach’s signature gateways is coming down this week. The John A. Lesner bridge is an expansion of Shore Drive that crosses the Lynnhaven Inlet at the intersection of the Chesapeake Bay and Lynnhaven River. Beginning the week of March 5th, 2017, the old John A. Lesner Bridge will begin to be taken down by the same company that built the original bridge in the 1950’s, using some of the same cranes that constructed the bridge under the supervision on McLean Contracting. The new bridge will have two 1,575-foot spans with two traffic lanes each way and a multi-use path on each side. The renovation will improve traffic flow for Shore Drive residents and visitors and allow for safer walking, jogging and cycling along the bridge.

The original bridge was named for the late state Senator, John A. Lesner from Norfolk. The Lesner Bridge replaced an original drawbridge, built in 1928. Once the old bridge has been removed, the girders at the base of the bridge will be sent to Virginia Tech for testing. The school will determine how much weight the girders supported in its deteriorated state. This study will help with many other bridges built around the same time period in the Hampton Roads area.
